Plant recognized in newspaper people's choice award.

The community of North Georgia recently proclaimed what we at GE Appliances have known for a long time: Roper Corporation is the best of the best. The plant, located in LaFayette, Ga., was named "Best Employer: Industrial Manufacturing Company" in a people’s choice award hosted by the Times Free Press.

“We’re honored," plant director Lois Crandell said. “Our employees are not only like family, but many of them are also family. Generations of family members have worked here, some side by side, for decades. We are an inclusive and diverse family, focused on growing together through innovation and teamwork.”

The Ware family has worked at Roper since 1974. Chucky Ware’s mother started working in 1974, Chucky joined in 1984 and his daughter, Calista, joined the team in 2005. Chucky left for a few years but returned for “my family and the family spirit at Roper.”

Both Chucky and Calista started working on the assembly line but have since been promoted to other careers within Roper. Chucky is a member of the Lean department as Kaizen Promotion Officer, and Calista is an Industrial Engineer Technician.

During her time with Roper, Calista took advantage of the company’s tuition reimbursement program and earned her bachelor’s degree, which has allowed for advancement opportunities and was the fulfillment of a lifelong dream.

“If my son ever wants to work for Roper, my hope is that through the experiences of myself, my dad and my grandmother, he will have the mindset that he can grow however he wants to, just as we have for generations," said said.

Congratulations to the Roper team on a well-deserved honor. The Times Free Press hosted a drive-thru awards ceremony on February 25 and will reveal the honors in this weekend’s paper. The plant is hosting its own celebration with employees on Friday.
