Our Statement on Hate Speech in Social Media

Jul 1st 2020

"GE Appliances is united in the stand against racism, hate speech and racist acts."
Rick Hasselbeck - Chief Commercial Officer, GE Appliances

GE Appliances is united in the stand against racism, hate speech and racist acts. We are guided by our company principles. Those values demand that we raise up those who face inequality and celebrate our commonalities as much as the things that make us unique. It is time to stand for something, or risk standing for nothing. With that thinking, we are making the choice to listen more and post less. In July, we will pause our organic content and paid advertising on Facebook, Inc. media properties which include Instagram.

We believe corporate accountability is necessary to engage in real change. By taking action with our silence... we will listen, improve and engage thoughtfully in change. While we take some time for introspection, we will continue to assess our spending practices.

We believe in the unity of our employees, communities and partnerships and that extends to where we decide to place our media dollars. The reality of systemic racism in our communities is a longstanding problem but one that is transformed by action, education, understanding and compassion. We support the organizations who are aligned in this task to create a more just, inclusive and accepting world.
