GE Appliances partners with nonprofits to open community laundromat
Sep 13th 2022
GE Appliances partnered with YouthBuild Louisville and other organizations to open Smoketown Laundry in a formerly vacant building in Louisville’s Smoketown neighborhood.
Smoketown Laundry uses an innovative approach to developing community-wide strategies to improve the economic and social well-being of residents. The multi-functional space features a neighborhood laundromat that also provides educational supports, financial literacy, and community resources.
The timing of the project was perfect. GEA entered the commercial laundry business this past December and YouthBuild’s proposal allowed the business to donate the units and test them in a real-world environment.
Our team of engineers and “clothes care” specialists, have worked in partnership with YouthBuild and their construction program over the past several months to install and program the washers and dryers.
GE Appliances also sponsored community laundry days providing complimentary wash and dry loads for neighborhood patrons.
